What is mead?
Mead, also known as honey wine, is a wine made with fermented honey instead of grapes. It is the oldest known alcoholic beverage, and is sometimes known as the ‘beer before beer’, popularised by the Vikings.
SKOL!!!!
Historically, Mead is thought to have originated before agriculture was invented, during the Neolithic or Stone Age period. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when Mead was invented, but it is historically the oldest alcoholic beverage known to humankind.
Mead is also known as honey wine, with its most basic form being both gluten and preservative free. Some varieties add fruits and spices.
Surprisingly, not all meads are sweet. There is a depth of flavour, colour and body. Everything that makes up the honey to the types of yeast used in fermenting and where and how it is matured bring something different.
